CORONAVIRUS UPDATE:
All In-Person Activities Cancelled for Sunday 3/15 and Wednesday 3/18
Dear Church Family, and Friends of Sardis Baptist Church,
Effective immediately, and until further notice, all in-person church activities are cancelled. Cancellations include: Sunday School (3/15), Morning Worship (3/15), Blood Drive (3/15), Worship Development Team Meeting (3/15), Sardis Academy (3/18), and Choir Practice (3/18). We will live stream Worship on Facebook, and as the situation develops, we will offer additional details of cancellations beyond next Wednesday. We also recommend that any board, staff, or steward team meetings be conducted virtually. Additionally, we encourage everyone to avoid in-person pastoral/member care visits to at-risk neighbors in care facilities.
The staff, along with feedback from the Boards of Deacons and Trustees, determined that this measure is paramount to the long-term health of our congregation, and of our community.
Yes, ours is a culture of hospitality, and yes, ours is a community that gains strength in communion with one another, most especially in human touch, and in the breaking and sharing of bread. Unfortunately, it’s those very things that will jeopardize our well-being in the coming weeks, and particularly for our more seasoned community members.
So…we’ll have to be creative, and we’ll have to use technology and patience to remain in fellowship with one another.
What does that look like?
Beginning this Sunday 3/15, we will stream our services (as we always do) on Facebook Live. You can access those services here. Bob will also post sermons online on the website, and we will send the Worship Guides and Sermon texts in an email.
If you have prayer requests, please be sure to email or text Bob those concerns and celebrations. In addition, we encourage you to take advantage of your church directories. Think about someone who you might not see this Sunday, and text, call, email, or write a letter. If you are watching the services on Facebook, use the comments section to be an active participant, or to greet others.
Similar to inclement weather days, there’s always a concern about missed collections to our offerings. We would remind you that you can use the PayPal account associated with our email address (info@sardisbaptistcharlotte.org), or simply mail in a check – we will still maintain basic administrative functions during the week.
More than anything, we ask everyone of you to take care of yourselves. Stay rested and healthy, and don’t take unnecessary risks. And pray for one another. This too shall pass. In the interim, we’ll wait with hope and confidence.
Wishing you God’s blessing and God’s peace,
Bob
