Blessing of the Animals

Sardis Baptist Church will host a Blessing of the Animals on Saturday, September 29th at 10:00 AM. The service is an opportunity to recognize and give thanks for all of God’s creation, especially our animal friends. Pets have a special place in our lives because they model unconditional love and affection. For many people, they provide companionship that is unavailable elsewhere.  The service will offer a chance for each family’s pet to receive an individual blessing, as well as a time of remembrance for departed pets. Children are encouraged to bring their favorite stuffed animals—teddy bears and stuffed flamingos need blessings too! The Animal Blessing will take place next to the Sardis Picnic Pavilion on 5811 Sardis Road. Please do not bring food for your pets! We will have water bowls and dog treats available for our furry friends. For the safety of people and pets in attendance, all animals must be in pet cages or on leashes. We wish to bless our animals, not traumatize them, so please leave “scaredy cats” (and other pets) at home! Prayers transcend distance, so presence is not required. We encourage you to bring photos of pets with social anxiety or poor manners. We’ll bless them from afar. Our friends from Bullies 2 the Rescue will join us for this event. They’ll gladly accept donations to support their efforts to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home French and English Bulldogs. Sardis friends are creating a photo display of beloved animals to remind us to continue offering prayers of health and thanksgiving for our animal friends in the months ahead. Bring or email your photo to the church office. If you would like to make a donation to Bullies 2 the Rescue, they could use the following items: -Towels -gentle baby wipes -Witch hazel -Size 6 diapers…

Maundy Thursday Communion Supper

Sardis Baptist Church will hold its fourth annual Maundy Thursday Communion Supper on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at 6 p.m in the Sardis Meetinghouse, 5811 Sardis Road in Charlotte. Many churches participate in Tenebrae services on either Maundy Thursday or Good Friday — a somber liturgy that extinguishes candles, and moves from light to darkness to represent the betrayal, agony, and anxiety of Jesus’ last days in Jerusalem.  While we note the somber tone of Jesus’ last supper with his disciples, we also seek to remember it as a first supper.  This is, after all, the very first Communion.  And this is, after all, the very same table where we come to meet our Lord each time we offer Eucharist.  And even though Friday morning would be dark and dreary, all three Gospel accounts of Thursday evening tell us that Jesus and his disciples (both men and women!) left that place singing. So join us at a table.  We’ll chime the hour at 6 p.m. We’ll share in a simple (but delicious) soup supper.  We’ll hear all three Gospel accounts of the meal in the upper room, as well as John’s telling of Jesus washing the feet of his disciples, and the Apostle Paul’s recollection in First Corinthians.  In between these readings, we’ll eat, and we’ll engage in conversations about how to make our table more open, more accessible, and more representative of the One we follow.  We’ll also share the bread and cup. Everyone at the table will serve and be served by their neighbors.  And the, like the first disciples, we’ll leave our supper in song. We’ll need the joy of Thursday evening, and the nourishment of a table to steel us for Friday, and to remind us of what’s to come on Sunday morning. All are welcome,…

4th Annual Blessing of the Animals

Sardis Baptist Church will host a Blessing of the Animals on Saturday, September 28th at 10:00 AM. The service is an opportunity to recognize and give thanks for every animal in our biosphere. All animals, insects and even microorganisms play a role in our ecosystem, and we’ll give thanks for them all. Our pets have a special place in our lives and will have a special place in this service. Pet companions model unconditional love and affection. New for 2019, the blessing will also include a petting zoo of barnyard animals. Following the service, everyone, and especially children, are invited to meet some rescued friends including rabbits guinea pigs, pigs, turtles, goats, sheep, chickens, llamas, mini cow, mini horse, and mini donkey.  These animals are very friendly.
